Managing Budget Cuts
If your charity works in the wide fields of health and social welfare (or indeed many others) in the UK, then it is likely that you have already, or will very soon feel the impact of public sector budget cuts. No doubt you are all too aware of this already though. So, rather than continue with the doom mongering, let’s look at some useful resources that can help you anticipate, plan for and manage the impact on your organisation.
Whilst funding sustainability also remains an issue for larger charities it was topped by the challenge of growing voluntary income; an indication perhaps that many large charities recognise they have built up too much dependency on statutory contract funding.
Cuts Watch, setup by ACEVO is a good resource providing up to date news and helpful advice on how to manage cuts effectively: http://www.cutswatch.org.uk
NCVO have a ‘Coping with Cuts’ section on their website, offering useful information and advice: http://www.ncvo-vol.org.uk/advice-support/coping-with-cuts
Last but not least, you may wish to speak to one of our consultants either to discuss our advisory and planning services; or for support seeking out new funding opportunities to mitigate the impact or potential impact of cuts.
