Sector concerns about funding sustainability and fundraising skills
In a recent survey of people working for charitable organisations carried out by nfpSynergy and Third Sector it was found that 49% of people asked thought that one of the biggest priorities for their charity over the next few years was around accessing funding and retaining regular donors.
The survey also suggested that creating a sustainable funding base was seen as a big challenge facing third sector organisations. The statistics showed that this was a sentiment particularly held by charities with turnovers below £6m.
Whilst funding sustainability also remains an issue for larger charities it was topped by the challenge of growing voluntary income; an indication perhaps that many large charities recognise they have built up too much dependency on statutory contract funding.
The study also demonstrated that people in the sector believe fundraising is the area with the greatest shortage of skills followed by governance and strategic planning.
The survey published in Third Sector demonstrates a clear need for the services that can be offered by organisations such as Charity Fundraising Ltd. Through Strategic input, direct fundraising services, mentoring and training we can help to resolve the key problems of accessing funding and fundraising skills shortages recognised by so many charity personnel in this research.
