First OCN Certified Fundraising Training Participants
Congratulations to Lisa Butler and Jenny McGranaghan of Optua who become the first learners to successfully complete OCN Certification of learning through our Finding Funding training course.
Peter See, Training Manager, explains: “ In order to achieve OCN certification, learners are asked to complete a short pre-course exercise, maintain a record of case studies and discussion whilst attending the one-day Finding Funding course and then submit a piece of post-course work. For anyone considering a career in fundraising or wishing to accredit their professional development this is a great opportunity. The certificate is worth One Credit at Level Three towards a National Occupational Standard in fundraising, “F19 Develop and Implement an Integrated Fundraising Plan”.
In order to offer this accreditation we had to satisfy NOCN that we had the necessary policies and procedures in place and submit portfolios of evidence about the planning, delivery, assessment and verification of the course. We are delighted that Lisa and Jenny have been successful and look forward to further participants in Finding Funding taking up this option.”
SPECAL (Specialised Early Care for Alzheimer's)
Fundraising Consultants at Charity Fundraising Ltd are delighted to welcome SPECAL as a new client.
There are currently 700,000 people with dementia in the UK, with an estimated two-thirds of them living in the community. With predicted numbers for 2025 being estimated at over a 1,000,000, health and social care staff and professionals are increasingly on the front line and there is a real imperative to offer patients and their families a portfolio of choices for managing this disease.
SPECAL is a dementia care charity based at Burford in Oxfordshire and its work is increasingly impacting on treatment of dementia around the UK. SPECAL offers an innovative, groundbreaking and highly practical method of care, for managing dementia that will allow both sufferer and carer to maintain the highest possible quality of life, throughout every stage of the illness. A person with dementia will experience random and increasingly frequent memory blanks relating to recent events. Feelings, however, remain intact, as do memories of past events and both can be used in a special way to substitute for more recent information that has been lost.
The SPECAL method, devised and improved upon over many years by Penny Garner, works by creating links between past memories and the routine activities of daily life in the present. Central to the process is the SPECAL Photograph Album©: a metaphor which is used to demonstrate in a simple and accessible way how normal memory works, the impact of ageing, and the single dramatic change which occurs with the onset of dementia. SPECAL has been endorsed by the Royal College of Nursing and The Alzheimer’s Society.
Graham Parker, Director of Charity Fundraising Ltd said; ‘ We are delighted that Trustees of SPECAL have chosen Charity Fundraising Ltd to work with them towards the achievement of substantial revenue and capital funding to support this remarkable work and to enable the impressive SPECAL method to be rolled out across the country. Increasingly Charity Fundraising Ltd is becoming the consultancy of choice in the field of Health and Social Care.’
Consultants at Charity Fundraising Ltd will research potential funders and draft applications for submission to Trusts, Foundations, High Net Worth Individuals, Lottery & Government funding programmes.

SDA Contract Tender Success
Charity Fundraising Ltd Consultants help Suffolk Deaf Association secure major contract
A recent assignment for Suffolk Deaf Association saw us working closely with them at short notice to achieve a contract worth circa £415,000 to deliver a range of hearing support services.
Ian Finch, Chairman of Suffolk Deaf Association said the support of our Consultants was "pivotal to our winning three bids, each for five-year contracts, with Suffolk County Council Sensory Services. The highest scoring bid was 94.5% of the available scoring marks - which we understand may be the highest ever achievement".
More and more local authorities and other statutory agencies are making the transition to procurement of social care and health services through open tendering. Many charities are turning to professional bid writing support to give them the best chances of success. Charity Fundraising Ltd have supported many of our clients to produce top quality tender documents and this recent success is testament to the value of such partnerships.
Bespoke Planning Workshop for Trustees
Planning Workshop delivered to Trustees of Rainbow Living Trust
Combining our consultancy and training skills, Peter See, Senior Consultant at Charity Fundraising Ltd, has just facilitated an in-house planning workshop for Trustees and supporters of the Rainbow Living Trust. Rainbow Living Trust has recently completed a substantial project to provide supported living accommodation for young adults with learning and other disabilities. At the core of the project was the concept that the service users should have independent choices of how they spend their lives. The Trustees are aware of further demand and additional services that might be provided. To assist their planning and prioritisation we were delighted to spend a full and rewarding day with them looking at the legal and financial options open to them and the implications for their future direction.
Invited to comment on the day, Ruth Airdrie, Trustee, said the workshop, “Enhanced (my) understanding of the current environment with its implications and gave impetus for the future of the charity and its aims and objectives”
